Photo Flash: Segerstrom Center Salutes Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration

During the past 17 weeks, students, teachers and professional teaching artists have worked together during after school sessions, learning, rehearsing and performing scenes, songs and dance numbers from some of Disney's beloved musicals. The goal being to create a sustainable theater program in the participating schools.

Students from the four participating schools during this year's Disney Musicals in Schools in Orange County hailed from: Las Positas Elementary (La Habra), Riverdale Elementary (Garden Grove), Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary (Anaheim) and Santiago Elementary (Santa Ana).

The culmination of all their efforts resulted in presenting and performing a live 30-minute Disney KIDS Musical performance on each individual campus. The students from Riverdale Elementary and Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary performed in Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS and students from Las Positas Elementary and Santiago Elementary performed in Disney's The Lion King KIDS.

Following their respective performances, the students then joined together at Segerstrom Center for the Arts as part of the Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration. This provided an extraordinary opportunity to perform a selection from their chosen musical on the Center's stage for an audience of students, family members and faculty.

The goal of Disney Musicals in Schools is to create sustainable theater programs in elementary schools and yesterday Segerstrom Center President Terry Dwyer shared the exciting news that through the help of our friends at Disney Theatrical Group, Segerstrom Center for the Arts is able to offer FREE performance rights and a standard show kit for each school to another Disney KIDS show for next school year. Segerstrom Center will provide a full day of professional development for each school team to start on their way to successfully producing another great show.
