On Monday, May 14, Sweeney Todd star Manoel Felciano will star in The Hidden Sky, with music and lyrics by Peter Foley and book by Kate Chisholm, at Joe's Pub.

Also scheduled to appear are Merle Dandridge (Tarzan, Aida), Marya Grandy (Les Miz, Trailer Park), Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd) and Katrina Yaukey (Company), among others.

"The world as we know it is no more. In its place, a society exists where math, science and the thirst for the unknown have been forbidden by the government and forgotten by the populace. Based on a short story by Ursula K. Le Guin, this award-winning music-theater piece tells the story of Ganil, a young woman whose longing for knowledge leads her on a passionate journey of discovery. As she risks her life in pursuit of truth, a series of unexpected events forces her to make a profound leap into the unknown. With an eclectic score featuring lush choral singing and contemporary rhythms, The Hidden Sky is a mythical tale of aspiration, awakening, and the indomitable human spirit and is particularly topical today, dealing with issues of politics vs. religion vs. scientific inquiry vs. spirituality that resonate in many of our current debates.  So far this new music theater piece has won the Richard Rodgers Development Award and the Spirit Award for Best New Score and has been nominated for 6 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Original Music and Outstanding New Play," state press notes.

The show is at 7:30pm, and tickets are $20.  Visit www.mano.felciano.com for more information.
