Leonard Nimoy's VINCENT Comes to Vermont Festival of the Arts, Now thru 8/31
(8/21/2014) - Leonard Nimoy's Vincent will be presented by Starry Night Theater Company, a professional touring company, for ten performances at the 2014 Vermont Festival of the Arts in Waitsfield. The passionate and turbulent life of Vincent van Gogh is dramatized in this intimate one-man play, which author Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek's Mr. Spock) adapted from hundreds of letters between Vincent and his closest ally, his brother, Theo. In van Gogh's lifetime, he sold only one painting and critics labeled his work 'madness' in which 'blood and fire appear to have usurped the place of color.' But his story is so much more than that of the misunderstood genius who cut off his own ear.
Weston's 78th Season to Conclude with UNCLE VANYA, 8/28-9/6
(8/20/2014) - Best-known for his roles in The Amazing Spider-Man, Royal Pains and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Campbell Scott takes to the Weston Playhouse stage for Anton Chekhov's wistful comedy, Uncle Vanya. Scott is playing the role of Astrov, the forlorn visionary philosopher in this timeless play in which tempers flare and passions are ignited when an aging professor returns with his beautiful young wife to his family's country estate. In an interesting spin, the Weston production is set in contemporary Vermont. This last show of the season is sponsored by the Vermont Country Store and has a limited engagement, August 28 - September 6.

WITNESS UGANDA Creators to Perform in Weston Playhouse Benefit Concert, 8/31
(8/13/2014) - When Griffin Matthews, a young black American from New York City, ventured to Uganda in 2005 to help build a village school, he had no idea what a life-changing journey it would be. His six-week experience, in the company of a group of orphaned teenagers compelled the young writer/director/actor to want to do something to improve their quality of life. First he formed a non-profit aid organization, the Uganda Project, and later, after returning to the village year after year, Matthews, in a collaboration with Matt Gould, wrote the award-winning musical Witness Uganda which has brought new funding to the project. Having its world premiere at the American Repertory Theater earlier this year, the two men will perform a concert version of the musical at a Sunday, August 31st special Weston Playhouse event.

Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE Comes to Middlebury's Town Hall Theater Tonight
(8/8/2014) - Mozart spoke German, but he wrote the popular comic opera Cosi fan tutte in the fashionable Italian language. The opera comes full circle at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater when the Middlebury College German for Singers and Vocal Coaches present the classic comedy in German. The adapted version will be presented tonight, August 8th, and Saturday, August 9th at 8:30 p.m.
THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: CAPS AND GOWNS Opens 8/14 at Weston's Second Stage
(8/6/2014) - The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns, Roger Bean's family-friendly jukebox musical, opens August 14th at Weston's second stage and will have audiences laughing, tapping their toes, and singing along (softly, please) with popular songs from the 50s and 60s. If you saw the prequel, which had a very successful run in Weston in 2010, you know you're in for a good time.
Dorset Theatre Festival to Present Agatha Christie's THE MOUSETRAP, 8/14-30
(8/5/2014) - Dorset Theatre Festival will present The Mousetrap, Dame Agatha Christie's masterpiece of mayhem and mystery, from August 14th through the 30th at the Dorset Playhouse. The Mousetrap, in addition to being one of Christie's most famous works, has the distinction of being the world's longest continually running play. The original production, at London's Ambassador Hotel, has been running continuously since 1952!
