In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father's cinematograph.

He soon stumbles on a revolutionary way of story-telling – and forty years later, he's become a famous American film director.

Travelling Light, the new hit play by Nicholas Wright now playing at London's National Theater, is a funny and fascinating tribute to the European immigrants who became celebrated Hollywood personalities.  It stars the award-winning actor Antony Sher.

Critics are raving about the production. The Guardian calls it "a love-letter to the movies and an appealingly intelligent evocation of the Jewish folk culture that formed the basis of American cinema."

Travelling Light will be broadcast at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Thursday, February 9 at 7 pm.  Tickets are $17 general, $10 students, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, by calling 382-9222, at the THT Box Office or at the door.
