Singer-songwriter Benjamin Scheuer returns to Weston's MainStage for a special evening performance on July 25th.

Scheuer is the creator and performer of the one-man show THE LION, which won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance when it premiered off-Broadway. Developed in part at a Weston Artist Retreat, THE LION also won London's 2015 Off-West End Award for Best New Musical and is touring the United States through February 2017.

With British animator/director Peter Baynton, Scheuer has created animated films for the songs "Cookie-tin Banjo," which was written in Weston, "The Lion," and "Weather The Storm." The films have played at festivals on four continents and garnered accolades including Public Choice for Best Music Video at the British Animation Award, Best Commissioned Film at the Annecy Film Festival, and Best Music Video at London's Encounters Film Festival.

Scheuer is the recipient of a Theatre World Award, the Musical Theatre Network Award for Best Lyrics, and the ASCAP Cole Porter Award for Songwriting. He has been a nominee for two Outer Critic Awards, a Lucile Lortel Award, and an additional Drama Desk Award for Best Lyrics. (Lin-Manuel Miranda beat him for that one, with Hamilton!) Just last month, Scheuer's debut album "Songs from THE LION" was released, and reached #10 on the Broadway chart.

The Washington Post calls his songs "well-constructed" and "exactingly played," with a hint of Paul Simon in his "easy, knowing lyrics and disciplined musicianship." Audiences should look forward to favorites old and new, and are encouraged to stay for a reception immediately following the concert to meet the artist.

Tickets for the event are $35 and can be purchased online at westonplayhouse.org or by calling the Box Office: (802) 824-5288.

Proceeds will help to support Weston's mission to produce a diverse, entertaining, and challenging season of live professional theatre and high impact events; enrich the theatergoing experience with education and outreach programs for all ages; and make significant contributions to the American theatre through training programs, play development, and retreats.
