Orthros Theatre Company presents “A Modern Fairy Tale” playing from August 19th-30th, 2015 at the Metro Theatre in Vancouver, BC. Doors at 6:00pm, shows at 7:00pm with matinees on Sundays at 1:00pm.

In the land of Kingdom Town, fairy tale characters go about their lives - with a modern twist. Our story begins with the blossoming romance between Wolf and adult Red Riding Hood, who encounter several roadblocks on their journey to being together – animal-people are mistrusted and racism abounds. With Red's co-dependent and wily Granny teaming up with Red's overbearing ex-boyfriend Hunter, Red and Wolf will face many hurdles before they actually make it to the ball at the royal palace.

Meanwhile, Rose is trying to help her catatonic sister Snow, Boots the Cat is attempting to organize an animal-person revolution, the Princes Chuck and Cinder are planning the last-minute royal ball, Alice and Hatter are experiencing a love-hate relationship of their own, and B is just trying to offer her friends the best advice possible.

Spun in a new direction, “A Modern Fairy Tale” takes timeless characters and puts them in a new light that is inclusive of LGBTQ concerns and gender neutral terms. With highlights that include ballroom-meets-hiphop dance routines, drag and cross-playing, and contemporary internet meme humor, this tongue-in-cheek pop-rock musical parody is bound to draw you in and make you reconsider everything you thought you knew about fairy tales!

Written and directed by Lisa Simon, with seasoned musical director Corrigan Cassidy, “A Modern Fairy Tale” stars Sasja Towe as Wolf and Julia Fox as Red, and also features Bradford Pellerin as Hunter, Natalie Schreiber as Granny, Damon Jang as Hatter, Amanda Krystal as Alice, Shauna Singer as B, Kathryn Ferguson as Rose, Katherine Lozada as Snow, and Bev Rapley as Wolf’s best friend Boots the Cat.

Also with Lachlan Belmont, Chris Lovatt, Wynn Tran, Liz Lorie, Kevin Mrazek, Matt Rudenko, James Hussen, Jenna Sokalski, and Shaun McHale as denizens of Kingdom Town!

Tickets are $20 (plus tax) and are on sale at tickets.metrotheatre.com.

For group discount rates, the Metro Theatre box office will be closed until August 1st. However, arrangements for group sales can still be made through email at les3056@gmail.com.
