The Firehall Arts Centre is pleased to present Nicolle Nattrass' brilliant one-woman show Mamahood: turn and face the strange from Tuesday, October 18 to Saturday, October 29, 2016.

Meet Marie - an extremely deprived first time mother who dares to tell the tale of her descent into motherhood as she travels to an alternate time and place, 'Planet Mamahood'. Her story is told with both humour and pathos, and as unpredictable and strange events unfold, she searches and reaches for help to heal and find her way home.

Written and performed by Nicolle Nattrass and directed by award-winning writer, performer, and director TJ Dawe (Burn Job, Post Secret: the Show), Mamahood: turn and face the strange is a witty and profoundly moving ode to motherhood. A mother of a pre-schooler, a playwright, and an actress, Jessie Award-nominated Nattrass delves into the pain and heartache associated with post-partum depression and opens the audience to the inner world of PTSD in relation to childbirth. She courageously shares her own journey, exploring the debilitating anxiety, shame, and intrusive thoughts that can plague a new parent and cast a shadow on the joy of this life-changing experience.

"When I first saw this show I was incredibly moved by the courage that Nicolle Nattrass has shown by taking her story to the stage. Not only is she breaking down stigma and barriers, but she is also doing it in an honest, raw, emotional and sometimes hilarious way. I recommend this play to all new moms, dads, parents, grandparents and anyone who has a mom. You will laugh and you will cry!" - Sheila Duffy, Executive Director at Pacific Post Partum Support Society
