Tonight Carnaby threw their biggest party to date in collaboration with Internationally acclaimed immersive party collective, elrow - the legendary party-starters. It is the first time the collective have worked with a destination and created a free party for thousands of shoppers on Carnaby Street to celebrate the switch on of the Christmas lights, which this year take inspiration from the V&A's current exhibition.

elrow hosted the line up from a stage in the middle of Carnaby Street with DJ's Eats Everything, De La Swing, George Privatti and Patrick Topping who spun the best house tracks in the business and officially counted down the lights going live. The experience included 120kg of confetti, 1,200 inflatable props, 20 performers and 20 stiltwalkers.

The night was 60s themed as the Carnaby Christmas installations are inspired by the V&A's current exhibition, 'You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970' which features 'Swinging' Carnaby Street in 1966. The installations are a powerful statement that celebrate the heritage of Carnaby and evoke the peace and love zeitgeist that embodied the fashion and cultural revolutions of the late 1960s and positive messaging for all today.

Experts on Christmas James Glancy agency designed the iconic installations with 46 giant lightboxes which pay homage to 1960s Soho signage. Designed in the revolutionary colours red, white and black, the strong visual image displays positive messaging throughout of 'Joy, Peace, Love, Kiss and Wish'. The light installation, placed throughout 13 streets, will be on display until early January 2017.

For one night only, over 100 fashion brands, restaurants and bars in the Carnaby area united to throw the ultimate Christmas party across 13 streets, with thousands of people attending.

Emma Steele, Marketing and Events at Shaftesbury says: "Christmas is well and truly launched in Carnaby, it's great to work with the V&A and elrow combining the swinging sixties with the current music culture of today which is what Carnaby stands for."

Juan Arnau Jnr, elrow founder states: "It's a great honour to be part of the Christmas lights switch on for Carnaby, an iconic street and event in London - a global referent city in the music industry. I hope everyone enjoys this festive celebration and joins our particular madness while lighting up Carnaby."

Victoria Broackes, co-curator of the V&A's exhibition, commented: "We're delighted that Carnaby have taken inspiration from You Say You Want a Revolution for the Christmas lights. The Swinging Sixties is an important aspect in the exhibition, which begins with a recreation of Carnaby Street at the heart of a cultural centre for fashion, music, art and photography. It's great to see this playing out on Carnaby Street today."
