WE'RE STUCK! Adds New Dates

Robot-filled interactive theatre show for 8-11 year olds, We're Stuck! returns to take children on a fun, code-cracking adventure to change their whole attitude to learning. Inspired by the extraordinary abilities and limitations of our brain when it comes to maths, We're Stuck! uses the latest educational neuroscience to explore how we can best grow our grey matter. Created by theatre-maker Sarah Punshon, in collaboration with an award-winning team including designer Joanna Scotcher (The Railway Children) and performers Seiriol Davies (star of last year's Edinburgh Fringe smash hit How to Win Against History) and Daniel Bye.

Ever got terribly stuck on a problem? Ever made a stupid mistake and felt like a fool? Then this show is for you. Young adventurers will go on a special tour deep into the heart of Volcano Industries where they meet cutting edge scientists struggling with some unusual and extremely tricky problems in their top-secret research laboratory. In a promenade performance, the ridiculous heroes and the brave young audience go on a voyage of discovery, pitching themselves against ludicrously difficult tasks, getting horribly stuck, and risking total failure.

The show was developed through test workshops with the help of Maths on Toast, a charity that was founded to tackle the lack of opportunities for families to have fun doing maths in their local communities. The new dates will visit venues in areas with a low level of arts engagement, including a takeover of a local community centre in Hackney.

Sarah Punshon said, "After our successful run last year, we're thrilled to get the chance to bring We're Stuck! to loads more children across the country - and particularly thrilled that with Shoreditch Town Hall's help, we can take the show right into the heart of Hackney communities. It means we can bring our vital nonsense to kids who might think theatre isn't for them, that maths isn't for them, that they shouldn't set their aspirations sky-high - and maybe make a difference to their future".

Sarah Punshon is a freelance director, dramaturg and curator. In late 2016, Sarah was appointed artistic director of the Dukes in Lancaster and will be taking over her new role in May this year. She trained as a director at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, and on the Channel 4 Theatre Directors Scheme at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Freelance theatre directing includes new writing and contemporary classics for the Watermill Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Salisbury Playhouse, Theatre by the Lake and the New Vic Theatre, amongst others. In 2006, she trained as a TV director on the BBC Drama Directors Academy, and has since directed more than 25 hours of popular television drama including EastEnders, Doctors, and Shameless.

China Plate is an independent theatre studio that works with artists, venues, festivals and funders to make original, exciting theatre that plays with form and has narrative at its heart. Launched by Ed Collier and Paul Warwick in 2006, the company is currently collaborating with Caroline Horton, Action Hero, Chris Thorpe, Contender Charlie, Dan Jones and Inspector Sands. China Plate are also Associate Producers at Warwick Arts Centre where they develop and commission new work, Artistic Associates at the New Wolsey Theatre where they are Directors of PULSE Festival, Programmers of New Directions (the NRTF showcase) and producers of innovative development programmes including The Darkroom, The Optimists (producer training) and The First Bite and Bite Size Festivals.
