The Wyvern Theatre have announced that they have extended the age range for Technical Theatre participants for this year's Summer Youth Project production of Summer Holiday.

For previous Youth Projects, the age range permitted for technical members of the team has been 16-21. For this year's production however, the age range is 14-26, meaning many more young people will have the opportunity to be involved backstage and to help bring the performances together with the support of the Wyvern's professional technical theatre team.

Production Manager and Swindon Theatres Deputy Technical Manager David Jell said:

"This year we are delighted to announce that we are extending the age range for technical participants for SYP. We are now accepting applications for anyone between the ages of 14 and 26. (For those between the ages of 14 and 16, there will be some limitation to what they will be able to do, but we will ensure that they get involved in as much as possible). This is brilliant news for local young people who have an interest in technical theatre and would like some experience working in a professional environment. We're really looking forward to taking on lots of new faces."

The aim of Summer Youth Project is to provide up to 250 local young people, aged 9 - 21, with the opportunity to work together in a professional theatre. The project culminates in five performances of a full-scale musical under the supervision of a highly skilled creative team including a professional director, choreographer, musical director, musicians and technical team all in less than 2 weeks.

Based on the 1963 film starring Cliff Richard, Summer Holiday tells the story of four London Bus mechanics who strike up a deal with London Transport. Don and his friends transform a double-decker bus into a holiday caravan and journey through Europe. Summer Holiday is the ultimate party musical and provides a real taste of Great British nostalgia.

For the opportunity to get involved in working backstage with the Summer Holiday technical team, in lighting, sound, stage crew or wardrobe, go online to www.swindontheatres.co.uk for the application form (under 'Get Involved') and send to david@wyverntheatre.org.uk

Summer Holiday will open at the Wyvern Theatre on Thu 24 August and run until Sat 26 August 2017. Book tickets today at swindontheatres.co.uk or by calling the Ticket Office on 01793 524 481.
