The Marlowe Theatre has paid tribute to actor Tim Pigott-Smith, who suddenly passed away on Friday. He was due to appear in Canterbury in Death Of A Salesman in June.

Tim's stage and screen career spanned almost five decades and he was made an OBE for his services to drama in the 2017 New Year Honours list. He was due to open tonight (Monday) in Death Of A Salesman at the Royal and Derngate, Northampton.

Marlowe Theatre Director Mark Everett said: "All of us at The Marlowe are deeply saddened that one of British theatre's greatest actors has gone. It is heart-breaking that we will now be unable to see him perform in Canterbury later this year. All our thoughts are with his family and his many friends."

The future of the Death Of A Salesman tour is being discussed.
