THE MARLOWE Studio, Canterbury, hosts a variety of shows this month (September).

Comedian and Radio 4 favourite Fred MacAulay is at the venue next week (Wednesday 16 September) with Twenty Fifteen. Scotsman Fred looks at how his country will shape up after the referendum of 2014, home life, politics and sport.

The unique folk voice of Naomi Bedford comes to The Marlowe Studio the following evening (Thursday 17 September). The release of her second album, A History of Insolence, has united the critics and confirmed the promise of her multi-garlanded debut of 2012, Tales From the Weeping Willow.

Combining folk and country styles, cultures and stories, Naomi - along with musical comrades Paul Simmonds, Justin Currie and Alasdair Roberts - has forged an original and contemporary hybrid of earthy roots music over which her unique voice provides stirring counterpoint.

Crazy Glue (Thursday 24 September) is a comedic rollercoaster through a relationship. Inspired by the physical comedy of Buster Keaton and the madcap absurdity of Looney Tunes, this is a fusion of silent film nostalgia and cartoon antics.

The cast of two blend vocal sound effects, quirky humour and an evocative 1930s soundtrack to reveal the crazy, sticky, messy side of marriage.

Founded in 2011, London-based Single Shoe Productions combines theatre, circus, dance, and film into stories that are intercultural, inventive and playful. The company's first collaboration was the short film Broken Encounter and their first theatre piece, Crazy Glue, premiered to critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival in 2014 and is now touring the UK.

Direct from this year's Edinburgh Fringe (his tenth show in consecutive years), comedian Andrew Lawrence brings his most honest, fearless and uncompromising stand-up show to date to The Marlowe Studio on Friday 25 September.

Uncensored is subversive and intelligent comedy from a double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee who is about to record his fourth series for BBC Radio 4.

The Furrow Collective are four of the finest musicians on the UK folk scene, at The Marlowe Studio on Tuesday 29 September. Their 2014 debut release, At Our Next Meeting, received widespread critical acclaim, and a new album is planned for release later this year.

With a bold, improvisatory approach, Rachel Newton, Lucy Farrell, Emily Portman and Alasdair Roberts (voices, guitar, harp, viola, concertina, saw and banjo) delve into the world of balladry, with storytelling taking centre stage.

Emily and Alasdair are both known for their original, folklore-influenced songwriting, and, often finding themselves on the same bills, they struck up a musical friendship, sharing stages and collaborating on each others albums. Lucy and Rachel are both solo artists in their own right as well as being sought-after session players and long-time collaborators with Emily Portman in her trio.

All shows start at 8pm. For ticket prices and to book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com.
