The European Premiere and the UK debut of Playwright Matthew Edison THE DOMINO HEART Set for Limited Run

A Finborough Theatre commission, and another in its series premiering the work of Canada's most acclaimed playwrights, the UK debut of award-winning Canadian playwright Matthew Edison - The Domino Heart, starring Amanda Hale - nominated for two Evening Standard Awards for Outstanding Newcomer and Best Actress, plays a limited run of nine Sunday and Monday evening and Tuesday matinee performances from 2 February 2014 (Press Night: Monday, 3 February 2014 at 7.30pm ).

As their marriage reaches its lowest ebb, in the midst of an old argument, Cara's husband is killed in a car accident. The Reverend Mortimer Wright is sleepless and alone in his hospital room, trying to reconcile his relationship with God with his fear of death. Leo is camped out in his office, cigar in hand, bitterly musing on the state of the world from his corporate vantage point. In the night sky above, a helicopter carries the organ that will connect them all.

Part mystery, part examination of the human soul, The Domino Heart is the haunting story of three strangers linked by one heart. A powerful exploration of the questions we ask ourselves when faced with our own mortality, and the choices we make which determine who we are.

Playwright Matthew Edison is an actor and writer living in Toronto. Born in 1975, he trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City, and is a great-great-great-grand-nephew of inventor Thomas Edison. The Domino Heart was his debut play and premiered at Toronto's acclaimed Tarragon Theatre, presented by Tarragon Theatre and Jack in the Black Theatre Company. It was nominated for Toronto's most prestigious theatre award - the Dora Mavor Moore Award - for Best New Play. Other writing includes winning Ottawa's National Art Centre's Young Playwrights Award, and the screen adaptation for CBC Television's Othello. As an actor, he has starred in stage productions across North America including most of Canada's leading theatres including Canadian Stage, Tarragon Theatre, Soulpepper Theatre, National Arts Centre and the Shaw Festival, while his extensive film and TV credits include Anne of Green Gables, The Murdoch Mysteries, Harriet the Spy 2 for Disney and Flash of Genius for Universal Pictures. As a director, Matthew received two Dora nominations for Best Director and Most Outstanding Production for The Qualities of Zero in at Tarragon Theatre Extra Space.

Director Jane Jeffery is Co-Artistic Director of First Sight. Directing includes Fourteen Candles (Soho Theatre), The Lighthouse (Kings Head Theatre), Crosswords (Theatre503), Two Noble Kinsman, Love's Labour's Lost, Henry V and Taming of the Shrew (Sam Wanamaker Festival at Shakespeare's Globe). Acting includes A Voyage Round My Father (Donmar Warehouse and Wyndham's Theatre), Steve And Then It Ended (Theatre503), and film and television including Top Boy, Law and Order UK, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Casualty, Holby City, I, Anna and Popcorn. She is a regular guest director at drama schools including the Arts Educational Schools and ALRA.
