Edinburgh Fringe 2014 will welcome BIANCA BAGATOURIAN AND FRINGE MANAGEMENT's THE TIME OF OUR LIES: The Life and Times of Howard Zinn by Bianca Bagatourian. Performances will play the Gilded Balloon Teviot - DINING ROOM, today, July 30 - August 25th.

Historian and shipyard worker, civil rights activist and World War II bombardier and author of A People's History of the United States, the best-seller that presented the country's past through the eyes of the common people rather than political and economic elites, Howard Zinn was equally revered and condemned during his lifetime and his legacy lives on since his death in 2010.

This August, Bianca Bagatourian, brings her work The Time of Our Lies to the Gilded Balloon to tell the story of the man who wrote extensively about the civil rights, anti-war movements and labour history of the United States and inspired a generation of American high school and college students to rethink their country's heritage.

Through song, rap and spoken word, The Time of Our Lies unfolds through Zinn's personal story as a young bombardier and goes on to depict how his life was shaped from there as well as examining the stories of other soldiers and the horrors of war. It speaks to Zinn's message about how more peaceful solutions should be sought in these turbulent times.

Myla Kabat-Zinn, Howard's daughter says of the play, "A wonderfully imaginative work that uses my father's words as the unifying thread. Songs, nursery rhymes and tapped-out rhythms add a playful lightness and humanness that illuminate the horrors of war."

Director Josh Chambers Artistic Director & Resident Composer of Fovea Floods Theater says, "Having directed Howard before, I share his desire to connect with our ancestry and dig deep into history."

Bianca Bagatourian is an experimental playwright and graduate of the MFA playwriting program at Brooklyn College with lifetime Obie award-winning playwright, Mac Wellman. Themes in Bianca's work often centre around human rights themes, these being intimately woven into the fabric of her life. Bianca is the founder and president of the Armenian Dramatic Arts Alliance, a non-profit organization that has supported Armenian artists for the past decade and also hosts the $10,000 bi-annual William Saroyan Social Justice Playwriting Award.
