The award-winning The Hatpin, which was a success in Australia and at the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival, will make its European premiere at The Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell from 30 October through 24 November.

One of the most shocking and influential trials in Australian history inspires this haunting musical, in which Amber Murray gives up her son to the wealthy Makin family in the belief that he will have a better life outside of poverty. When she is unable to visit him, her suspicions are aroused. Refusing to be brushed off with excuses, she begins to look more closely into the family she has entrusted with her son. The Hatpin is about being brave enough to find the truth, and then having the strength to face it.

The Hatpin is directed by Ricky Dukes, who was named Fringe Report’s Best Artistic Director earlier this year, and features music by Peter Rutherford with book and lyrics by James Millar. The musical director is Aaron Clingham and the associate director is Gavin Harrington-Odedra. Costume design is by Alice Pocock.

The Hatpin was originally produced by Neil Gooding Productions and White Box Theatre at the York Theatre, Sydney, February 2008. The American premiere was presented at the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The Hatpin plays Blue Elephant Theatre (59a Bethwin Rd, Camberwell SE5 0XT) from Tuesday 30 October to Saturday 24 November at 7.30pm on Tuesdays-Saturdays.

Tickets are £16.50 (£12.50 conc.) and £10 for Southwark Residents & for previews (Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 October.) To book, call 020 8858 7755 or visit www.greenwichtheatre.org.uk. For more information, visit www.blueelephanttheatre.co.uk.
