The world premiere of Tim Sanders and Charles Miller's The Return of the Soldier will see Stewart Clarke (Ghost, Loserville, Godspell) returning to the stage as Captain Christopher Baldry.

Starring alongside him in this intimate new chamber musical will be Zoe Rainey (Wicked, Hairspray, and Parade at the Donmar) as Kitty Baldry, Laura Pitt-Pulford (Marry Me a Little, Light Princess at the National Theatre, Parade) as Margaret Grey, Michael Matus (Canterbury Tales for the RSC West End, Lend Me a Tenor, Sound of Music, and joint winner of the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement for the RSC's Jacobean season) as William Grey/Dr Gilbert Anderson, and Charlie Langham (new graduate hand selected by Elaine Paige for her Sky Arts TV show) as Jenny Baldry

Producers Katy Lipson, of Aria Entertainment, and Guy James say: "We are absolutely delighted to be bringing this new musical The Return Of The Soldier to the stage. Our cast represent some of the finest West End names on the circuit at the moment and along with our fantastic creative team it's a testament to the strength of the piece. We are thrilled to be presenting what looks to be one of the most exciting new musical theatre pieces in recent years."

Directed by Charlotte Westenra (Venice Preserv'd at The Spectators' Guild, Sunset Baby at Gate Theatre, Celebrity 24 Hour Plays 2011 and 2010 at the Old Vic, Lower Ninth, Donmar at Trafalgar Studios), The Return of the Soldier is an intimate new chamber musical by Tim Sanders (book and lyrics) and Charles Miller (composer) based on Rebecca West's celebrated 1918 novel. This intensely bittersweet tale dissects the very different love of three women for Captain Christopher Baldry.

When Christopher returns from the war suffering from shell shock, there are profound consequences for each of the women. As he tries to return to everyday life, he has to confront the traumas sustained through the stress of warfare. With a cast of five, this powerful new musical drama with its rich and arresting score becomes an eloquent treatise on the nature of love, truth, memory and loss. In the end, only an extraordinary sacrifice will restore a fragile status quo.
