Sheffield Theatres is in the running for one of the arts industry's top awards, The Stage 100 Regional Theatre of the Year, for a second consecutive year.

The Stage, the country's leading publication for arts and entertainment, today announced its Top 100 Award nominations. The 'Regional Theatre of the Year' award recognises the outstanding success of arts organisations outside of London. Sheffield Theatres, the current holder of the award, has been shortlisted for this year's award.

Commenting on the shortlist, the judging panel noted:

Factor in the production of a new musical - This is My Family featuring Siân Phillips - a tour of The Full Monty with confirmation of a 16-week West End transfer next year, and a successful run of My Fair Lady starring Dominic West, and it's not surprising that The Stage's 2013 regional venue of the year, Sheffield Theatres, is in the running again. A major production of Oliver! directed by artistic director Daniel Evans for the Christmas period and its ongoing community-led work through shows performed by its Sheffield People's Theatre provide the icing on the cake.

Elsewhere in the award categories, Dan Bates and Daniel Evans, Chief Executive and Artistic Director respectively, appear at Number 11 in the Stage 100 'Power List' moving from Number 18 last year.

Dan Bates, Chief Executive commented, "We were so proud to hold the title of Regional Theatre of the Year 2013 and are thrilled to be shortlisted for the award for a second time. We have had an exceptional year with five world premieres on our stages; The Full Monty enjoyed a sell-out run at the Lyceum before its tour of the UK; Bull, a new play by Mike Bartlett, transferred to New York as part of the Brits Off Broadway season; we won four awards at the UK Theatre Awards and our hit production of Oliver! will continue to delight audiences through to the end of January. All of this success is only possible thanks to the hard work of the Sheffield Theatres team and the passionate support of our audiences."

Sheffield Theatres has been shortlisted for the Regional Theatre of the Year award alongside the New Wolsey Theatre and the Marlowe Theatre. The award winners will be announced at a special event in London on 31 January 2014.
