Sheffield Theatres has announced it raised over £50,000 at its fifth Fundraising Gala on Friday 29 May, 2015.

As a registered charity, the money raised will support the Theatres' work on and off stage, including the continued development of Sheffield People's Theatre. The People's Theatre has over 700 members from across the local community; 150 of whom are currently in rehearsal for Camelot: The Shining City which opens Thursday 9 July.

During the evening, guests were taken on a journey through the Crucible Theatre, enjoying a sumptuous Gala dinner and pop-up surprise theatrical performances from the cast of Pride & Prejudice and Louis Maskell (My Fair Lady, West Side Story). Guests also heard an audio piece played over headphones provided by Slung Low (Co-Producers of Camelot: The Shining City), where audience members, alumni and People's Theatre members shared some of their experiences and passion for Sheffield Theatres.

Together with the ticket sales for the event, the Theatres held a raffle during the evening and Artistic Director, Daniel Evans hosted a show-stopping auction of exclusive 'money-can't-buy' experiential prizes.

Dan Bates, Chief Executive said: 'Our fifth Fundraising Gala gives us the opportunity to celebrate Sheffield Theatres' role as a thriving cultural landmark in the heart of the city. We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by our guests on the night, and the money raised will allow us to realise our ambitions to continue to create accessible work, that ignites the imaginations of the people of Sheffield and beyond.'
