Angel Comedy is now the official UK home of The Second City, the world's premier school of improv whose illustrious alumni include Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Steve Carrell and Mike Myers. From 2017 Angel Comedy are offering a full annual programme of Second City courses: winter, spring and autumn terms. Tutors will fly over from The Second City to work exclusively at Angel Comedy, providing students with the same level of training as at any of their other centres. This is the first time this level of Second City training has ever been available outside North America.

The Second City Improv Program is a complete foundation in the principles of scenic improvisation as practiced at The Second City. Based in the work of Viola Spolin, this five level program covers all elements of the improvisational process. Students begin in Level A with ensemble, continuing with environment and object work, and end in Level E by rehearsing and performing a fully-improvised show.

SPRING TERM 2017:

Improv Program - Improv Level A

1 week course runs 10:30am-5:30pm, 6th - 10th February 2017 and 10:30am-5:30pm, 13th - 17th February 2017

Improv Level A is the first class in the beginner improv program for anyone who wants to learn how to improvise - no previous experience is required.

In Improv Level A, students start to learn the skills needed to create strong improvised scenes. Some of these skills include building ensemble, giving and taking focus, object work, and, one of the most crucial fundamentals of improv, the concept of "yes, and."

Level A sets the foundation in scene work, ensemble, and the building blocks of improvisation. Students must complete Level A in order to advance to Level B.

Turning Improv into Sketch

10:30am-5:30pm, 6th - 10th February 2017

Learn how Saturday Night live and other Classic US TV shows have been created - using these Second City techniques. The goal of this class is to provide a curriculum in which participants learn the standard structure/process of writing sketch comedy, but also have a chance to discover their "writing voice" via the troupe atmosphere leading up to the creation and execution of a final 45 minute original sketch comedy show.

Improv Program - Improv Level B

10:30am-5:30pm, 13th - 17th February 2017

In Level B, students build upon the skills they learned in Level A and start learning how to improvise scenes.

Students learn the skills crucial to scene work, including emotion, listening, and transformation, as well as continue to hone skills learned in Level A.

Level B introduces students to the skills needed for scene work, the backbone of what we do at The Second City. Students must complete Level B in order to advance to Level C.

Each of these one week intensive courses is priced at £335 per student. Register online at http://www.angelcomedy.co.uk/courses/second-city/
