Sebastian Rex Performs At Blue Elephant Theatre

In a uniquely entertaining evening of two very different shows, the Blue Elephant Theatre will present the contemporary dance production, 'Clichéd' by Sebastian Rex Dance Group and a short new play, 'Mind The Gap', written and directed by Sebastian Rex and performed by the theatre company Acting Like Mad.

'Clichéd', choreographed by Lisette Foster and performed by 10 dancers, explores what happens when clichés are stripped of their meaning and given new ones. Featured music includes Mendelssohn's 'The Wedding March', Bernard Hermann's theme from 'Psycho', Serge Gainsbourg's 'Je t'aime...moi non plus', and 'The Can Can' as well as more musical 'clichés' that are given unexpected choreographic treatment.

'Mind The Gap' is a new piece of writing about two young people trying to find their place in the world. Their means of achieving that are by playing games that expose their past, present and future. But will they manage to skip the gap of their futile youth? Or will they get caught in a never ending circle that leads them to nowhere? The play is written in a quirky and energetic manner. Scenes are short and dynamic. Just like that sentence was. Even more so. Like that.
'Mind The Gap' is written by Acting Like Mad's artistic director, Sebastian Rex and directed by Maria Prevelli.

The language that is created for each piece is symbolic and the ideas are told by the overall effect. In 2009 the company presented Modern Romance at the Blue Elephant Theatre. "It's the oldest of stories, but, under Sebastian Rex's direction, his Modern Romance takes the form of a stylish and gracefully surprising, sometimes perverse dance." (The Stage).

The aim is to produce imaginative, vibrant work for both performers and audiences. . Sebastian Rex is a writer, director and choreographer. Acting Like Mad's productions include Spare (New Diorama), $ellebrity (Blue Elephant Theatre), Toy Boy (New End Theatre), and Living With...(Tabard Theatre). Sebastian is also artistic director of Sebastian Rex Dance Group whose productions include the critically acclaimed Modern Romance, God Cried Woof, I Wonder... (all Blue Elephant) and Just Don't and Divine Comedy at The Robin Howard Theatre. Sebastian choreographed the tour of Love's Labour's Lost for Black Ram Theatre, Company for All Star Productions, Me and My Girl (London Palladium) and more.
