When a strange looking old man falls from the sky and into a quaint fishing village the surprised locals don't know quite what to make of him at all. Add to their surprise a sickly boy being miraculously restored to health and an irresolvable infestation of crabs being suddenly resolved, and we have the beginnings of a very marvellous story.

Based on the story by Gabriel García Márquez A VERY OLD Man with Enormous Wings was first brought to life in 2011 by Little Angel Theatre in association with Kneehigh to celebrate the 50th birthday of Little Angel Theatre. In 2013 the production went on tour performing at Battersea Arts Centre, Bristol Old Vic, Curve in Leicester, Falmouth Performance Centre and Salisbury Playhouse.

Four masterful puppeteers manipulate a cast of unforgettable town archetypes to life utilising an array of puppetry styles and showcasing a focused skill of the art form rarely seen. The cast of four are Roger Lade, Rachel Leonard, Andrea Sadler and Sarah Wright. Roger, Rachael and Sarah are reprising their original roles within the production.

A VERY OLD Man with Enormous Wings is very much a family affair. As well as being a collaboration between two highly creative and renowned theatre companies it is a demonstration of the sheer talent and creativity of the Wright family, who founded Little Angel Theatre in 1961. Lyndie Wright is the designer, her daughter Sarah is both puppetry director and puppeteer, her son Joe Wright (director of Pride and Prejudice and Atonement) created the original storyboard and his wife Anoushka Shankar contributed to the composition of the soundtrack.

At its heart, this remarkable story is an exploration of human wants, needs and desires as well as our seemingly inescapable habits of greed and selfishness. What will happen to the old man? Will the townsfolk realise the errors in their judgement?

A VERY OLD Man with Enormous Wings is at Little Angel Theatre from 26 Nov 2016 - 29 Jan 2017.
