Marek Larwood’s Work in Progress - Comedy

Pleasance London - Monday 7^th May & Thursday 7^th June, 8.00pm

For two nights only, Marek Larwood, a believer and understander of mankind, performs a show where he battles the stigma of being typecast as a bald person with mental health problems. Watching this show simultaneously cures all sexually transmitted diseases and also racism. In the second half little known sex offender Dave McNeill will enter phase two of his rehabilitation by performing comedy to strangers.

Radha is Looking Good & The Clock – Double Bill - Theatre

Radha is Looking Good - Radha is 24 years old and autistic. She doesn't speak. Only in her head - where the audience is. This is a rare opportunity to hear her thoughts, dreams and feelings, her loves and hates, and her darkest fears.

The Clock - A dark modern fairy tale about shadows, fear, and secrets. Using shadow puppetry and silhouettes, a single performer presents three generations of women all trapped by their past.

Henna Night by Amy Rosenthal - Theatre

Recently dumped by Jack, Judith leaves a desperate voicemail hinting at both pregnancy and suicide in a bid to get his attention. Instead Ros, the other woman, arrives just as Judith has started a DIY Henna treatment. Confronted with 'the other woman', sparks fly between chaotic Judith and dependable Ros, but it soon becomes clear that in different circumstances they could be friends. The award-winning Henna Night is an entertaining and wickedly perceptive play about the intimacy and rivalry of female relationships.

Moon River - Theatre

Esther won't talk. Sandy won't shut up. Ron mostly turns off his hearing aid. Ingrid's dying for a drink. Mary's dying for a bonk. Moon River follows 87-year old Gladys as she struggles to make a home in the alien surroundings of a Chingford residential home. What is she doing here anyway? She's clearly the only sane one. Gladys can't get out of this place soon enough! Moon River tumbles from sharp sitcom to frightening dreamscape and back again, via a tea dance at the end of time.

Sean Lock – Work in Progress - Comedy

Award winning Sean Lock is one of the UK’s most highly acclaimed and original comedians, making his stage debut over fifteen years ago. His stand-up is the product of a hyperactive imagination combining hilariously surreal imagery and insightful observations on the human condition. Most recently, Sean is best known as a team captain on Channel 4’s topical comedy panel show, 8 Out of 10 Cats which is still going strong into its seventh series.  Sean is returning to Pleasance to develop his new stand-up material for a national tour.

The Tin Violin - Theatre

The life of the violinist and composer Joseph Emidy is one of the most extraordinary of modern times. Born in Guinea, West Africa in 1775, at the height of European colonialism, Emidy was first captured as a slave by the Portuguese, then kidnapped by the British Navy, serving as a fiddler on The Indefatigable during the French wars. Landing at Falmouth, Cornwall and being presented with a magical tin violin made by an illiterate miner, Emidy became a musical genius of the early nineteenth century. The play offers an extraordinary parable of humanity that raises questions about identity, belonging and place, and also turns upside-down preconceived ideas about West Britain and the continent of Africa.

Alan Davies - Comedy

Pleasance London - Thursday 21^st – Sunday 24^th June, 6.00pm 

Last year Alan Davies performed a series of work-in-progress shows in the Pleasance Stage Space. The resulting show, Life Is Pain, toured Australia to packed houses and excellent reviews. This year he is taking the show to Edinburgh but not before stopping at the Pleasance first.

Ring Round the World - Theatre

Pleasance London - Thursday 21^st – Friday 6^th July, 1.30pm

English Pocket Opera Company (EPOC) is celebrating the London 2012 Olympics by creating, performing and recording the biggest children’s opera ever known. 

In collaboration with Pete Churchill and teams of musicians, percussionists and choreographers, EPOC will present performances of a new jazz opera with 173 schools – one for each Olympic nation. Every performance will be unique, with each participating nation represented and celebrated on stage with professional singers, musicians and over 5,000 children.
