Goblin Baby Theatre Co. to Present THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, March 16
On 16th March 2014, V?Day London 2014, Goblin Baby Theatre Co. will present a one-night-only benefit reading of Eve Ensler's award winning play The Vagina Monologues at The Space (Isle of Dogs) at 6pm.
The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Eve Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women's experiences. Based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women, the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength with humor and grace. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than 16 years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.
Last year over 5,800 V-Day benefits were held around the world raising funds and awareness towards ending violence against women. These highly successful events raised over $5 million through performance of The Vagina Monologues, readings from V-Day's A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer and Any One Of Us: Words From Prison and screenings of V-Day's documentary Until The Violence Stops and the PBS documentary What I Want My Words To Do To You. Goblin Baby Theatre Co. has joined this global movement as part of the V?Day 2014 Campaign.
This special benefit performance is presented this year as part of V-Day's campaign ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE, a global call for women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in places where they are entitled to justice - courthouses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not - and release their stories through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, sit ins, and testimonies.
The Vagina Monologues will be performed at The Space, 269 Westferry Road, London E14 3R at 6pm on 16th March 2014. Tickets are £14 (£20 with an additional optional donation or £10 for concessions) and may be purchased online https://space.org.uk/event-booking/?event=vdaylondon2014theva or by phoning 0207 515 7799. (All profits will be donated to the charities Tender and Refuge as well as the V-Day Spotlight campaign.)
Presented by Goblin Baby Theatre Co., a London-based activist theatre ensemble not afraid to address taboos and set out to challenge the confines of conventional theatre. Produced and directed by Tessa Hart with an international cast.
