A rarely performed masterpiece of sinister and subversive theatre by the East German playwright whose reputation is second only to Brecht in German Theatre of the 20th century. Nineteen years after his untimely death and twenty-five since the fall of the Berlin wall, his legacy is reassessed in this hair-raisingly funny and shocking revival.

Set simultaneously in both a pre-revolutionary Parisien Salon and a post World War Three bunker, the two vicious leads of De Laclos' classic: DANGEROUS LIASONS, Merteuil and Valmont, circle each other probing for weaknesses. Denied external prey, they must devour themselves.

Eloquent and disturbing, sophisticated and depraved, a dissection of selfishness, decadence and heartless seduction.

It is both sexy and horrifying.

The Observer review of this production at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh said: "Muller's treatment of the two cynical seducers of innocence, Merteuil and Valmont, is amazingly modern. You have the feeling that even cannibalism could be part of the ultimate scenario. On one level the text sounds like a PHD thesis compiled from steamy letters to Forum. On another it is an eloquent poetic examination of moral ambiguity."
