Everyone knows Robin Hood lived in Sherwood Forest, a pristine wonderland of nature, including giant oak trees. When the new stage production THE HEART OF ROBIN HOOD begins performances on December 23rd at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Sherwood Forest will be represented on stage in a verdant and magical setting by the celebrated designer Börkur Jónsson.

But before the show arrives in Toronto, FORESTS ONTARIO, a registered charity whose goal is to preserve and strengthen the province's beautiful woodlands, will be taking over the front of the theatre by selling freshly cut pine trees for three days only: December 11th, 12th and 13th.

As the Royal Alexandra neighbourhood has now many condo dwellers, FORESTS ONTARIO will have condo-sized two-feet trees as well as the traditional four- to eight-feet sizes. The tree prices range from $25 to $60, and there will also be seedlings in burlap root bags for only $5. Tax receipts will be issued on any purchase over $25.

And that's not all.....DAVID MIRVISH has yet another early holiday treat for theatregoers.

On the final day of the tree market, Mr. Mirvish will offer tickets to THE HEART OF ROBIN HOOD for only $20 (regularly sold for up to $79). These tickets will be for four performances only: Wednesday December 24th matinee, Friday December 26th evening, and Saturday December 27th matinee & evening. The seats are in the upper balcony of the theatre, which, in keeping with the setting of the show on stage, will be renamed the Tree House of the Giant Oak. From here, audiences will have an especially spectacular vantage point of all the action in Sherwood Forest.

Explains Mr. Mirvish: "In the great tradition of my father's discount holiday offers, our $20 tickets for these four performances of our exciting new show is yet another way of giving back to the community at this time of year.

"THE HEART OF ROBIN HOOD is set in the 1190s. So, our thinking is that the ticket cost should be $11.90 per ticket, then we add $8.10 as a donation to the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund, bringing the total to $20.

"Everyone wins! Theatre goers are among the first to see a great show at a phenomenally low price while supporting a wonderful cause."

The $20 tickets will be sold only in person at the Royal Alexandra Theatre box office on Saturday, December 13th, starting at 10AM. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are all sold out.

Finally, in the spirit of the legendary story, everyone who purchases tickets (or a tree), will also be given a bag of gold coins. Okay, they aren't real gold coins; they are even better: delicious milk chocolate wrapped in gold foil.
