The performers "make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands on that makes a sound," says co-founder/director Luke Cresswell. A unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy, STOMP has created its own inimitable, contemporary form of rhythmic expression: both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in the hands of an idiosyncratic band of body percussionists. It is a journey through sound, a celebration of the everyday and a comic interplay of characters wordlessly communicating through dance and drum.

Synchronized stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra, eight Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments - dustbins, tea chests, radiator hoses, boots, hub caps - to fill the stage with a compelling and unique act that is often imitated but never duplicated.

In addition to the stage shows, STOMP has been an overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, an Academy Award nomination for the short film Brooms by STOMP co-creator/ directors Cresswell and McNicholas, four Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award for their acclaimed HBO special Stomp Out Loud, noteworthy TV appearances ranging from The Academy Awards (produced by Quincy Jones) to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and a series of award-winning international commercials.

STOMP's international engagements have included Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, South Africa, Israel, Palestine, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Poland, Bahrain, and The Acropolis in Athens, Greece. STOMP has also made its unique presence known on cuts on Quincy Jones' CD Q's Jook Joint (receiving a Grammy nomination) and in a unique collaboration on The Latin Grammy Awards with the award-winning band Calle 13.

Creators Cresswell and McNicholas directed the IMAX film, Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey, an award-winning celebration of global rhythms that takes viewers on a percussive and musical journey to points including India, Africa, Spain, the US, the UK and Japan. STOMP was also seen in movie theatres in a :30 second trailer for Dolby Laboratories that Cresswell and McNicholas directed, and in a series of New York City public service announcements, print and outdoor ads encouraging people to STOMP OUT LITTER.

STOMP's other television and video appearances include The Emmy Awards, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBS Sunday Morning, General Hospital, Mad About You, Letterman, Roseanne, Conan O'Brien, Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee, The Cartoon Network's Space Ghost, and Sesame Street's Let's Make Music with the Muppets. STOMP has become such an identifiable part of popular culture that it has been parodied on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, and has been an answer on Jeopardy!

Critics and audiences have raved: "STOMP is a sure-fire crowd pleaser with a rock-and-roll heart," says The New York Times. "STOMP finds beautiful noise in the strangest places," says USA Today.

STOMP is the winner of an Olivier Award for Best Choreography (London's Tony Award); an Obie Award; a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience, and a Special Citation from Best Plays.

In Calgary, STOMP plays Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.; and Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for STOMP vary in range depending on performance, seat location, and date of purchase and start at $42.00.
