Jeunesses Musicales' Twilight Series Presents Pianist Sergei Saratovsky 11/18

Jeunesses Musicales continues to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jeunesses Musicales Canada, and the 30th anniversary of Jeunesses Musicales Ontario (JMO)! Update: the first concert with violin/piano duo Andrew Wan and Philip Chiu is still to take place October 29; CBC Radio 2's Tom Allen (a JMO alumnus) has agreed to guest host.

Now it's on to Concert #2 in the 4-concert series! Pianist Sergei Saratovsky will perform Mozart: Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 333; Schumann's Carnaval, Op. 9; Chopin's Nocturne in F major, Op. 15 No. 1 and Nocturne in B major, Op. 9 no. 3; Debussy' s Estampes; and Liapunov's 12 Transcendental Studies, Op. 11 (excerpts). "We're expecting the first concert to be a real success and we're eager to continue audience outreach," said Vanessa J. Goymour, General Manager & Artistic Director of Jeunesses Musicales Ontario. "To promote the series further, JMO has partnered with a couple of neighbourhood pubs, the Duke of Richmond (part of the Eaton Centre) and the Duke of Somerset. Both locations are near the Arts and Letters Club, and it was a great fit. We're encouraging young professionals who enjoy both a post-work drink as well as classical music to enjoy a Twilight Series concert, and to visit the Duke of Somerset location post-concert to meet the artists, enjoy dinner, and a complimentary dessert." The Duke of Somerset is around the corner from the Arts and Letters Club, at 655 Bay, at Elm Street. The promotion will commence with the first concert and continue through the series.

The winner of several awards, including the Prize for the Best Canadian Artist at the Montreal International Musical Competition's 2008 Piano edition, the 2nd Prize at the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition in 2006, and the 1st Prize at the City of Porto International Music Competition, Sergei Saratovsky is an exceptional young pianist. This Russian-born Vancouver artist has already given several concerts in Russia (his homeland), Portugal, the United States, and Canada. Mr. Saratovsky is currently a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia where he studies with Jane Coop.
