The Drama Department of the Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA) is proud to present A Doll's House.

Henrik Ibsen's 1879 masterpiece introduces us to Nora Helmer, a doting wife and mother whose life is dedicated to the nurturing of her family. Nora, however, harbours a secret: some years ago she borrowed a staggering sum of money without her husband's knowledge in order to finance his recovery from an illness. The scheme succeeded but the secret debt looms large in the shadows. As the truth starts to emerge, it threatens to tear apart Nora's construct of marriage, gender roles and family values, challenging her to examine who she is and what role she's truly meant to play in her world.

A Doll's House established Ibsen as an internationally renowned playwright. Since its premiere in December 1879, the play has seen numerous acclaimed productions around the world and continues to be one of Ibsen's most performed works. Ibsen's tale of Nora Helmer's journey fashioned him into an icon of early feminism.

Performed by a cast of teenagers at the Theatre Centre in Toronto and directed by ESA drama teacher Natasha Brault and ESA alumnus Taylor Sutherland, A Doll's House raises questions about gender politics that are as resonant today as they were in Ibsen's time.

The Theatre Centre is located at 1115 Queen Street West. For more information, visit www.theatrecentre.org, call (416) 538-0988, or email boxoffice@theatrecentre.org.
