After a string of award-winning hits and a successful remount of its' psychological cop thriller, Slip, at the Tarragon Workspace, Circlesnake Productions is excited to partner with Greenline Theatre to bring a fan favourite out of their archives. Special Constables brings summer blockbuster action to life on the Factory Mainstage at the 2017 Toronto Fringe.

Special Constables is a comedy thrill-ride that chronicles the return of Toronto's most elite police force: the TTC Transit Police. Set in the turbulent pre-apocalyptic fears of the year 2012, Jameson, a former constable, is responsible for the crumbling of the Special Constables. But when a Metropass counterfeiting ring threatens to take over the TTC, Jameson has one shot to redeem both his former unit and himself. Starring independent theatre darling Danny Pagett as Former Special Constable Jameson and, Second City Mainstage alum, Nigel Downer as the monologuing mastermind Three Tone. The supporting cast draws from all over Toronto's independent theatre scene: Nelu Handa (Bad Dog Theatre, Yas Kween), Connor Bradbury(Sex T-Rex, Bad Dog Theatre), Chloe Sullivan (Unit 102), and Mikaela Dyke (A Vagrant) play the rest of the ensemble in this goof-filled caper.

Circlesnake Productions is a small-venue independent theatre company currently capturing the imagination of Toronto audiences with its cinematic approach to storytelling. Known for their adaptation of genres rarely seen on stage, the company has earned major nods from within the local industry. Their collaborative creation process, drawing heavily on comedy and improv roots, creates shows with hard-hitting comedy and grounded emotional resonance. They are a part of a discernible trend in the local independent scene of theatre creators looking to the narrative structures and dialogue of film and television to create theatre that appeals to audiences whether they're more into Netflix or Stratford.

The Toronto Fringe is the perfect venue for a new company to find new devotees of their work. The audience for local independent theatre is growing to the point where the closing of four of Toronto's independent theatre venues in the last two years resonated enough to generate several articles in the local press. Nowhere is this growth in audience more apparent than within the Fringe Festival circuit, which the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals reports as generating more than $10,000,000 in box office revenues over the last 3 years. The Fringe itself has become not only a proving ground for creators but also a talent incubator for producers. Come From Away creators Sankoff and Hein got their big break when Mirvish picked up their first musical, My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, at the Toronto Fringe and BBC hit Fleabag is based on a solo show written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge that had a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe. The Toronto Fringe runs from July 5-16th, 2017.
