AFRICA UMOJA Continues at the Elgin Theatre thru Aug 18
The International Arts Foundation (IAF) has been a leading presenter of exciting concerts and events in the United States and abroad featuring international and national celebrity world music, R&B, Jazz, and Hip Hop singers, dancers and musicians. IAF is proud to present the return of the critically acclaimed South African musical, Africa UMOJA.
Africa UMOJA: The Spirit of Togetherness created and directed by Todd Twala and Thembi Nyandeni is explosive. It's a light and lively journey of history of the African culture and heritage through an energetic array of singing that is soulful and inspirational. With the AMAZING costumes, and high-energy dance choreography, the encounter with this production is exhilarating to say the least. Africa UMOJA is dynamic in a manner that will command your undivided attention. The audiences respond repeatedly with standing ovations.
The journey begins with a rhythmic explosion of intricate drums and ends in the era of the latest urban dance craze. It delves into the changes South Africans endured and Nelson Mandela's fight for freedom. The musical experience features such celebrated musicians as Hugh Masekela and the sensuous sounds of Miriam Makeba and more. The cast belts out exceptionally soulful vocals and spirited renditions of African American spirituals such as "Amazing Grace" and "Oh Happy Day".
The International Arts Foundation presents Africa UMOJA: The Spirit of Togetherness at the Elgin Theatre, on Yonge Street in Toronto NOW through August 18. This production has been HELD OVER BY POPULAR DEMAND. Shows are nightly at 8PM and 2PM Matinees on Saturday and Sunday.
