The multi-talented pianist Larry Weng will appear in recital on Thursday evening, January 8, 2015 , 7:30 p.m. at SubCulture Arts Underground, 45 Bleecker St., Downstairs, New York, NY as part of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation's three-concert SubCulture series featuring standout participants of the New York International Piano Competition (NYIPC). This year marks the 30th anniversary of Zorn's influential game piece Cobra and the earlier pieces to be presented, dating from the late 70s and early 80s, provide an exciting window into the development of this seminal work. On Sunday, December 7, The Pearl Theatre Company will present a one night only benefit performance of holiday readings, radio plays, and music hosted by WNYC's Leonard Lopate at the theatre company's home on 42nd Street. The special event will include selections of stories from Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, O. Henry, and many more performed by Members of The Pearl's Resident Acting Company including Dominic Cuskern, Jolly Abraham, Dan Daily (currently starring in Major Barbara), Chris Mixon, Carol Schultz and Brad Heberlee. Performing alongside Mr. Lopate and the Company will be the musical duo of Gelber & Manning, providing early jazz standards from Old New York. (more...)

Piotr Borowski, a student and collaborator of Jerzy Grotowski and co-founder of Gardzienice Theatre, has created a stage adaptation of 'Chasing the King of Hearts' by Hannah Krall. The book is a 2007 bestseller of spiritual survival in the fateless universe of the Holocaust. Borowski's play, 'The King of Hearts is Off Again,' is a memory piece with physical theater that has been presented in California and the Midwest. La MaMa will present present the Kulture+ production of this play, acted by Studium Teatralne, for its East Coast debut tonight, November 26 to 30, 2014. The piece will be performed by actors from Warsaw, where it was developed.' (more...)
