Starting fittingly on July Fourth weekend, Museum of the Moving Image will present The Essential John Ford, a tribute to the consummate American filmmaker. Ford made his reputation on westerns, but worked in many genres, creating films of depth, beauty, and ambiguity. From July 3 through August 2, the Museum will present 20 movies directed by Ford-all on film, with some restored archival prints-including his masterpieces Young Mr. Lincoln, My Darling Clementine, The Searchers, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. According to an announcement on La MaMa's blog, Dutch theater troupe Dood Paard has been unable to obtain visas for the actors and crew behind its production of BOTOX ANGELS, set to run at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theater (66 East 4th Street) from June 26 to 28, coinciding with Gay Pride Weekend. With no way for the team to travel from Amsterdam, the show has been cancelled. (more...)

In Extremis Theater Company is pleased to announce its world-premiere production of Happy by Liz Thaler (The Fresh Fruit Festival's The Peddler's Tale, FringeNYC's Courtney and Kathleen: A Riot Act) as part of F*ckFest, a sex-positive theater festival at The Brick. This production, directed by Lauren Miller (FringeNYC's How Do You Say Mother in Esperanto?, Producer of newTACTics at TACT/The Actors Company Theatre) and produced by Peryn Schmitt, will be presented at The Brick in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (579 Metropolitan Avenue) for 4 performances: Today, June 20th at 2PM, Sunday June 21st at 5PM, Saturday June 27th at 6PM, and Sunday June 28th at 5PM. He doesn't want to say 'Bye, bye' to Miss American Pie just yet. In the summer of 2013 and early 2014, BroadwayWorld New York cabaret editor/reviewer and Cabaret Scenes Magazine feature writer Stephen Hanks fulfilled his long-held fantasy to perform a cabaret show based on the songbook of 1970s pop singer/songwriter Don McLean, who wrote the classic song, 'American Pie.' Hanks' show BEYOND AMERICAN PIE: THE DON McLEAN SONGBOOK was staged four times at Manhattan's Metropolitan Room and once at Stage 72 (The Triad), and Hanks says the reaction from reviewers and audience members was surprisingly positive. Now Hanks is bringing back his Don McLean 'tribute show,' only this time as DON McLEAN: STORYTELLER, and he'll be performing it at the World Famous Don't Tell Mama 'Brick Room' today, June 20 and Monday, June 29, both shows at 7 pm.
