Tomorrow, Rooftop Films is on the roof of The JCC in Manhattan for multi-talented experimental filmmaker Jodie Mack's 'Dusty Stacks of Mom' with Documentary Shorts. Jodie will be in the house, performing the film's score live during the screening. On Wednesday we head to Socrates Sculpture Park in LIC, Queens for the FREE International Premiere of The Deadly Ponies Gang, a wild doc about two homies ridin' tricked out ponies, looking for trouble on the rural outskirts of New Zealand. Harris; Music by Trent Jeffords is being presented at the New York Musical Theatre Festival with performances at PTC Performance Space (Pearl Theatre Company), 555 West 42nd Street, NYC. A second additional performance has been added for this Sunday 7/20 at 4pm. Performances begin this weekend: Friday, July 18 at 8pm; Saturday, July 19 at 5pm; Sunday, July 20 4pm (2nd added show) & at 8pm; and the first added show on Tuesday, July 22nd at 1pm; Tuesday, July 22 at 5pm; and Saturday, July 26 at 9pm. For Tonight, by creators Shenelle Williams, Spencer Williams and Whitney Rhodes, has extended its run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). This will be the first time in the history of the festival that a reading will add an additional performance to its run. They will be performing a concert version of this new original musical on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 9pm at Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036). NYMF's most popular presentation, FABLE will play at Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center Tuesday, July 22 through Sunday, July 27. NYMF has begun adding performances. Thursday, July 24 at 5:00pm is the first; Sunday, July 27 at 1:00pm is the second; with more to follow. Composer/Lyricist Christopher Anselmo has been selected as a participant in the prestigious 2014 NYMF/ASCAP Musical Songwriting Workshop, which runs in New York from Monday, July 14 through Sunday, July 20. Lee Krasner (1908-1984) and Norman Lewis (1909-1979) were major contributors to Abstract Expressionism but as a woman and as an African American, respectively, they were often overlooked by the leading critics of their time. From September 12, 2014 through February 1, 2015, the Jewish Museum will present From the Margins: Lee Krasner l Norman Lewis, 1945-1952, a survey of key 1940s and 1950s works by these two powerful painters.This was a transformative period in American painting when both artists were experimenting with approaches that joined abstraction and cultural specificity.
