Samantha Barks is set to play Eponine in the film version of Les Miserables - the role she played at the 25th anniversary concert.

Actor George Blagden has joined the star-studded cast of the upcoming LES MISÉRABLES film adaptation as Grantaire, reports Variety today.

Les Misérables originally opened in London at the Barbican Theatre on 8 October 1985, transferred to the Palace Theatre on 4 December 1985 and moved to its current home at the Queen's Theatre on 3 April 2004. When the show opened, it featured Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean and Frances Ruffelle as Eponine.

Argentinian star Gerónimo Rauch, who is currently playing Jean Valjean at BTM in the Spanish production of Les Misérables in Barcelona, will repeat the role in the London production starting June 18th.

Earlier this month, BWW reported first that country songstress Taylor Swift will play Eponine in the upcoming LES MISERABLES film, and though an official casting announcement has not yet been made, it seems that Swift is indeed a part of the cast. Casting for the upcoming film adaptation of LES MISÉRABLES is well underway, with Hugh Jackman taking on the role of Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe squaring off as Javert. Sacha Baron Cohen as Thernardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, and Anne Hathaway as Fantine were also announced to bring their star power to the cast. The UK Sun is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen, known to musical theatre fans for his turn in SWEENEY TODD opposite Helena Bonham Carter in the Tim Burton film, has joined the upcoming LES MISERABLES film as Monsieur Thernardier. The Sun reports that that he will be reuniting with Bonham Carter in the film. Previous reports had indicated that Geoffrey Rush was in talks to play the part.

According to BBC News, Tom Hooper, who will direct the upcoming bigscreen apdption of stage favorite LES MISERABLES, has officially announce that the film will be shot in 2D. Hooper told BBC: 'I did test 3D and I was very tempted - I think it is a very interesting new form.'
