Now Playing Onstage in Thousand Oaks - Week of 1/19/2014 I AM JACK
Fred Kavli Theatre
1/21-1/21/2014
Jack is a smart, funny, 11 year old boy who's being badly bullied at school. What starts as an off-the-cuff joke during a handball competition soon turns into a set of circumstances whereby Jack is no longer safe on the playground. But with the use of self-expression through photography, Jack begins to make sense of his world, of his relationships with others, and most importantly, with himself. This excellent show explores the often-overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding to this topic. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor. An excellent medium to demonstrate the effects of bullying to students and ways in which they can deal with it in a constructive way.

Now Playing Onstage in Thousand Oaks - Week of 1/19/2014 FOREVER TANGO
Fred Kavli Theatre
1/24-1/24/2014
FOREVER TANGO features fourteen world-class tango dancers, one vocalist and an on-stage eleven piece orchestra, including the instrument of the tango, the bandoneon, in an evening that celebrates the passionate music and dance of Argentina. The dances, performed to original and traditional music, are the result of collaboration between each couple and director/creator Bravo. "The tango is a feeling that you dance," says Bravo, "a story you tell in three minutes. It's passionate, it's melancholic. It's tender, violent. You dance it with somebody - but it is so internal, you dance it by yourself. More than just a dance, the tango is music, a drama, a culture, a way of life."

Now Playing Onstage in Thousand Oaks - Week of 1/19/2014 INTERNATIONAL GUITAR NIGHT
Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre
1/24-1/24/2014
For the November 2013/14 North American tour, IGN founder Brian Gore will be joined by Italy's Pino Forastiere, Mike Dawes from England, and Quique Sinesi from Argentina. Pino is revered in contemporary steel string guitar circles for his unique mix of melody, improvisation and hand percussion using the strings, the fretboard and the body of the guitar. Since Mike Dawes released his debut single with Candyrat records in June 2012, his international profile has exploded. The young performers' virtuoso style, littered with subtle nuances and micro-techniques has earned the 24 year old Brit massive international critical acclaim. Quique is a master of many South American melodies and rhythms on both guitar and charango. We are looking forward to a particularly inventive evening of contemporary guitar music.

Now Playing Onstage in Thousand Oaks - Week of 1/19/2014 MASTER CLASS
Conejo Players Theatre
1/10-2/1/2014
Terrence McNally's Tony Award-winning "Master Class" is the story of Maria Callas -- one of the most celebrated opera singers of the 20th century. The story itself isn't so much an exaltation of her success as it is a celebration of the idea that being a star requires not only talent and hard work, but also the attitude of a true diva of the theater ... It's the 1970s, and Callas -- almost 50, her time on the stage now over - is holding a "master class" for several voice students. She spends the class with two sopranos, a tenor, and her accompanist. Callas has less to say about their vocal abilities and talent than she does about her own experiences. Had she lived past the age of 54, Maria Callas would've turned 90 years old this past December.
