Cabrillo Music Theatre's 2012-13 Season to Include LEGALLY BLONDE, 1776 & More

Cabrillo Music Theatre today announced its 2012-2013 SEASON, produced exclusively in the Kavli Theatre, at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.  The 2012-2013 Season will treat audiences to four Cabrillo premieres, with three of them also Civic Arts Plaza premieres.   

Theatregoers will spend time with fascinating friends, as they watch John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson overcome enormous odds to write the Declaration of Independence; take a trip to the drive-in movie with Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski; take Harvard Law School by storm with the indomitable Elle Woods; and contemplate the meaning of life with Snoopy while laying on top of a doghouse. 

The Cabrillo Music Theatre 2012-13 season has something for everyone.  The entire season is family friendly, and every show is locally produced.  All of Cabrillo’s productions are auditioned and rehearsed in Southern California, and performed exclusively in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

It's a hot, sweltering summer in Philadelphia, and the American Dream is about to be born!   1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.  Weeks before our nation elects a president, Cabrillo Music Theatre will present this Tony Award-winning musical about America’s first days. 1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as the men behind the national icons - proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble figures – grow determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation.

Cabrillo’s production of 1776 will be directed by Ovation Award-winner Nick DeGruccio, with Musical Direction by Darryl Archibald.  1776, conceived and created by a high-school history teacher, is recommended for all audiences.

Good Grief!  Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy and the gang take to the stage in the Civic Arts Plaza premiere of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. This 45^th Anniversary Production of “a day in the life of Charlie Brown,” is a delight for children and “former children” alike.  Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production will feature brand-new songs and material from the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival, plus classic songs such as HAPPINESS, SUPPERTIME, THE BASEBALL GAME and the title tune.   Will Charlie Brown ever find the courage to talk to the little red-haired girl?  Will Linus give up his blanket?  Will Snoopy figure out the meaning of life…. from the roof of his doghouse?  There’s something for everyone in Cabrillo Music Theatre’s YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN.

The Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies take you for a joyride back to 1959 in the Cabrillo Music Theatre premiere of the classic rock-n-roll musical.  GREASE, at one time the longest-running Broadway musical in history, gave birth to two revivals and a beloved movie.  The artistic staff reunites two of the stars of the stage and film versions of GREASE, as Barry Pearl (“Doody”) will direct Cabrillo’s production, joined by Kelly Ward (“Putsie”) as choreographer.  Songs include “Summer Lovin’,” “We Go Together,” “Beauty School Dropout,” and “Greased Lightnin’,” among many others.  You’ll go to the pajama party with Sandy and Rizzo; pile into the trunk and ride to the drive-in movie with Danny, Kenickie and the guys; and dance the “Hand Jive” in the High School Gym.   So slick back your hair, grab your pom-poms and let Cabrillo Music Theatre’s all-new production of GREASE send you over the moon!

Cabrillo Music Theatre goes Blonde in the summer of 2013 with the Thousand Oaks and Professional Regional Premiere of LEGALLY BLONDE.  Based on the hit movie, LEGALLY BLONDE is now a dazzling, energetic and funny musical, nominated for seven Tony Awards.  Sorority star Elle Woods doesn’t take “no” for an answer.  So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone “serious,” Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.  Cabrillo’s brand-new production of LEGALLY BLONDE will wrap up the 2012-2013 season with a Blonde bang!

Performances are held Thursday evenings at 7:30PM (Please note the early curtain time), Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm.  A post-show discussion with cast and staff follows the first Saturday matinee of each production.  A signed performance for the deaf and hard-of-hearing will take place on the second Friday night of each production.
