The Big Fat Arena Spectacular Calls for 800 Locals for HAIRSPRAY Production

More than 800 young local performers will have the opportunity to perform on stage with a full professional cast, including theatre legend Simon Burke as Edna Turnblad, singer and actress Christine Anu as Motormouth Maybelle, mesmerising dance man Wayne Scott Kermond as Wilbur Turnblad, House Husbands' Tim Campbell as Corny Collins, Dan Venz as Link Larkin and Lauren McKenna as Tracy Turnblad alongside a core cast of 30 professional singers and dancers.
HAIRSPRAY - THE BIG FAT ARENA SPECTACULAR is directed and choreographed by Callum Mansfield, who has recently worked on the national tours of Dirty Dancing, The King & I and the Arena production of CATS in Brisbane.
This unique performance experience also comes with an invaluable training opportunity - each young artist who auditions successfully will be put through a rigorous HAIRSPRAY boot camp and performance training process before going on to participate in the live performances of HAIRSPRAY on 14 & 15 October 2016.
All bootcamps, training opportunities, performance preparation times and performances take place during school holidays.
In 2014, Harvest Rain produced a major arena production of CATS starring Marina Prior and featuring over 800 performers. The production was seen by over 13,000 people and set a world record for the largest production of CATS ever staged in the southern hemisphere.
With explosive choreography and stunning sets and costumes, HAIRSPRAY will be an unforgettable journey back to the 60s. It's 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire - to be on television dancing on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television network - all without denting her 'do!
Produced by Harvest Rain, HAIRSPRAY will be directed and choreographed by Callum Mansfield with musical direction by Dennett Hudson, designs by Josh McIntosh and lighting design by Trudy Dalgleish.
HAIRSPRAY - THE BIG FAT ARENA SPECTACULAR will play at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for 3 performances only on 14th and 15th October 2016.
