Following its critical and popular success at the 2016 Sydney Fringe, the hit production Tammy & Kite returns to ATYP in October.

The show follows Kite. Kite was nine years old when Tammy died. Tammy was fourteen, and Kite's big sister.
Tammy was really great. Kite would love you to meet her.

How does a child cope when they lose the person they love the most? Using humour, sensitivity and puppets, Tammy & Kite explores how imagination, memory and play can allow young people to express emotions that adults often struggle to put into words.

Tammy & Kite is developed and performed by emerging theatremakers Hannah Cox and Caitlin West.

"This story is important to me for two reasons," Cox notes. "First of all, it is a genuine exploration of a sibling dynamic; it allows for moments of love and conflict and confusion to sit out in the open.It is very honest, and because of that, often very funny!"
"Secondly, this story seeks to show a child's experience of grief as legitimate and sincere. As such, we explore experiences that are not only relevant to children, but provide adults with a fresh perspective for adults as well."

The show will hit the stage at the Australian Theatre for Young People in Walsh Bay for just five performances from October 25. The show will then tour to Perth in 2018.

"At the heart of this story is a child's experience of loss, and the process by which she grieves," Cox says. "Through telling this story Tammy & Kite seeks to open the chance for discussion, between siblings, families and friends, about how they might deal with difficult emotions or new and overwhelming situations. By showing moments of joy and loss and struggle we aim to break the taboo which surrounds discussions of grief, especially concerning children."

But Tammy & Kite is not all serious.

"It is also joyful and playful," Cox says. "There are puppets and fart jokes and a lightsaber fight! This is a show for the whole family, with something for everyone".
