This week rehearsals have commenced for the premiere of the 2014 Broadway revival of VIOLET in Australia. Playing at the Hayes Theatre Co from 27 November, this will be the first time the production has been seen in Australia.

VIOLET is directed by Mitchell Butel with Musical Direction by Lucy Bermingham Strictly Ballroom and Guilty Pleasures, Choreography by Amy Campbell Guilty Pleasures and SYTYCD and Set Design by Simon Greer Man of La Mancha.

"I can quite honestly say I don't think I've been in a rehearsal room with singers as phenomenal as the ones in VIOLET," said Director Mitchell Butel. "Rehearsals are pure bliss when these talented people are doing their thing. And not only are they phenomenal singers but each of them has acting chops to match and already, they are creating characters of incredible depth, nuance and surprise. Add a theatre and an audience and this firecracker of a cast is going to explode."

VIOLET is a musical from the Tony Award-winning Jeanine Tesori with a libretto by Brian Crawley. With show-stopping anthems ranging from American roots to folk to gospel, it follows a truly original woman who on her quest across America for divine intervention finds a very different kind of salvation. If Chekhov, Lena Dunham and Aretha Franklin conspired to write a musical, this would be it.
