Minnesota State University Mankato - Ted Paul Theatre
5/2-5/3/2014
A large, extraordinary collection of medieval poetry came to light in 1803 at the southern Bavarian monastery of Benediktbeuern. This collection of 320 poems, known as Carmina Burana or "Songs of Benediktbeuern,"dates back to about AD 1230. The Carmina Burana collection owes its present popularity to the German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982), who wrote his famous opus of the same name in 1935-6 using 24 of the original texts. In this performance, the Minnesota State Mankato Departments of Theatre & Dance and Music come together to present the poems in song and dance on the Ted Paul Theatre stage.

Now Playing Onstage in St. Paul - Week of 4/27/2014 WORKING BOYS BAND
History Theatre
5/3-6/1/2014
In a world before child labor laws, many young people got factory jobs to help their families get by. One visionary educator saw music as a way to bring structure and meaning into the lives those children and so in 1918 Professor C. C. Heintzman formed the Working Boys Band. Through music, discipline, and compassion, the Professor shaped a rough-and-tumble group of young men into a Twin Cities institution. This world premiere musical celebrates the place of music in the lives of young people with a flourish of romance, a crescendo of patriotism, and the growing drumbeat of the approaching Great War.
