AXIS Dance Company, one of the world's most acclaimed and innovative ensembles, forever changes the way you think about the possibilities of the human body. Under the artistic direction of Judith Smith, the company of seven dancers-with and without disabilities-challenges the possibilities of movement, expanding and enriching the art form itself. This eye-opening performance includes "what if would you" by Victoria Marks, "Full of Words" by British choreographer Marc Brew and a new work by Amy Seiwert. Hailed by famed choreographer Bill T. Jones as the company that "showed me what dance could be," AXIS is a crown jewel of contemporary dance and disability culture.

Now Playing Onstage in St. Paul - Week of 3/16/2014 BULLY
SteppingStone Theatre
3/7-3/23/2014
When SteppingStone Theatre decided to create a Young Playwrights program, the questions we asked the participants were "What is Bullying, and Can It Be Stopped?" After more than a year of improvisation, writing and workshops, we are proud to present "Bully." The play was created by six young Twin Cities playwrights aged 15-19, and six more from Action Transport Theatre in Ellesmere Port, England who worked on the same questions. The result is a rich, funny and moving exploration of bullying from the perspective of those closest to it. "Bully" is an experience not to be missed.

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, Music Theater
3/25-3/30/2014
See what Time Magazine exclaims is "A don't miss theatre event! The #1 Broadway musical of the year." Winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is hitting the road in a stunning and stirring new staging, including such legendary songs as "Summertime," "It Ain't Necessarily So," and "I Got Plenty of Nottin'." The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess features one of Broadway's most accomplished creative teams, led by Tony-nominated director Diane Paulus (Hair), Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog), and two-time Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray (Running Man), bringing George and Ira Gershwin's legendary masterwork to the stage for the first time in more than 35 years. Praised by the New Yorker as, "A great achievement!" and hailed by the Associated Press as "a gorgeous version of the Gershwin masterpiece," the classic story of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is set in Charleston's fabled Catfish Row, where the beautiful Bess struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the courageous Porgy. Threatened by her formidable former lover Crown, and the seductive enticements of the colorful troublemaker Sportin' Life, Porgy and Bess' relationship evolves into a deep romance that triumphs as one of theater's most exhilarating love stories.
