Disney's THE LION KING heads into it's final week at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis (closes Aug. 7) with a special performance geared towards kids and individuals with sensory, social and learning disabilities and their families on Saturday, July 30 at 2 p.m. This is the first Broadway tour that is offering this kind of performance in Minneapolis. Tickets are still available at HennepinTheatreTrust.org/SensoryFriendly, by phone at 866-276-4884 or in person at the State Theatre Box Office at 805 Hennepin Avenue.

Veteran cast member, Frank Wright II, who is a swing and Mufasa understudy who has been with the production since the very beginning in 1997 (see Wright's interview here), tells a little about this special show and what it means to THE LION KING cast in the video. In particular, Audience members can expect:

  • House lights left on at a low level
  • Trained volunteers and professionals on hand
  • Sensory support encouraged and available
  • Designated quiet spaces and activity areas
  • Lower sound levels, especially for startling or loud sounds
