The Sheldon presents Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Sunday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. The acclaimed South African group, led by Joseph
Shabalala, returns to The Sheldon performing Isicathamiya (is-cot-a-ME-Ya), traditional South African style vocal music.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo have spread their message of "peace, love and harmony" throughout the world for over 30 years, promoting their African culture through captivating harmonies and breathtaking traditional dance. Founded in the early 1960s, former factory worker Shabalala has led the group to international fame, with numerous Grammy nominations and three Grammy Awards to their credit. The group first rose to fame with their landmark collaboration
with Paul Simon on his album, Graceland. Recent projects include the Grammy-winning Raise Your Spirit Higher, released in 2004 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the end of
apartheid, and No Boundaries, a classical crossover album recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra. Their latest album, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu, pays tribute to the young African warrior, dancer and leader who is credited with uniting disparate African tribes into the nation now known as South Africa.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has performed with artists such as Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Joe
Cocker, Phil Collins and Paul McCartney and have contributed to movie soundtracks including The Lion King: Part II, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Cry the Beloved Country.
They have performed for Nelson Mandela, the Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family at the Royal Albert Hall in London, at two Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies, and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
