"Go Tell it on the Mountain" with the Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas show.

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Sheldon presents "Go Tell It On The Mountain," The Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. One of today's most celebrated Grammy-award winning gospel groups, the Blind Boys of Alabama have spread the spirit and energy of pure soul gospel music for over 60 years, ever since the original group formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939.

In recent years, the Blind Boys have proven themselves masters of bringing out the most spiritual aspects of mainstream music, while at the same time bringing the music of the church straight to the roadhouse. In the past five years, they've recorded moving renditions of songs by everyone from Tom Waits to Prince side by side with their traditional material, and appeared as guests on record and on stage with an equally diverse array of artists, from Peter Gabriel to Ben Harper. During this amazing run, the cover tunes and collaborations have been consistently acclaimed and possess a time-tested understanding of the sounds that move the soul.

Accompanied by some of the Crescent City 's most distinguished R&B and jazz musicians, Down In New Orleans, the group's 2007 Grammy-winning album, includes the Blind Boy's most adventurous journey into musical experimentation with traditional soul gospel still unmistakably at its core. "This particular flavor is new for us," singer Jimmy Carter comments. "We've never recorded in New Orleans , never been backed up by any New Orleans bands. We've had it in our minds to work there for awhile, and we decided to do it now to support New Orleans while they rebuild after the hurricane."

This year's tour is the Blind Boy's sixth Christmas tour, which coincides with their newest album, Duets, released October 27 featuring collaborations with Bonnie Raitt, Lou Reed, Ben Harper, Randy Travis, John Hammond, Solomon Burke and more. Duets features three previously unreleased tracks - with Lou Reed, John Hammond and Toots Hibbert - as well as a new song with Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles that was simultaneously released on his forthcoming CD.
