July 23-27 Songwriting Intensive with Michael Beatty Michael Beatty leads students (ages 14-18) with at least two years of formal music training in a songwriting intensive which culminates in a recording session. Beatty has sung with rock bands and symphony orchestras and has released several critically acclaimed albums. Focus will be on writing lyrics and music in addition to recording/performance strategies. 9:00am -3:00pm at COCA, 524 Trinity Ave., St. Louis, MO. $480 ($435 COCA members). www.cocastl.org

August 4 Open Registration for Fall Arts Classes Registration is open for fall classes (beginning September 4) in the visual and performing arts for children and adults. COCA offers year-long, semester-long and short-term classes and workshops for beginning through advanced levels. Classes in ballet, tap, theatre, voice, social dance, visual arts, fitness and more are taught by professional teaching artists. Prices vary. August 6-9 Before the Click: A Photography Intensive with Stewart Halperin Students (ages 14-18) learn to take exceptional photos by concentrating on what happens before they click the shutter. Teens with a serious interest in photography will gain great insights from professional photographer Stewart Halperin, whose work has taken him on assignment around the globe. This intensive includes discussion, hands-on shooting trips, critique and downloading/editing techniques as well. 9:00am-3:00pm in Millstone Gallery at COCA, 524 Trinity Ave., St. Louis, MO. $310 ($285 COCA members). www.cocastl.org August 10-11 Open Call: Quilters ???????????

Actors 11-18 years of age are invited to audition for the COCA Theatre Company production of Quilters by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, directed by Christopher Limber. This moving celebration of American womanhood combines music, dance movement and scenes of dramatic intensity and was a record-setting regional theatre success before presentations on Broadway and at the Edinburgh Festival. Students should prepare one monologue, 32 bars of a song, and bring a resume and photo. Students cast will be asked to pay a participation fee of $195. August 13, 19 and 22 Open Call: COCAdance, Ballet Eclectica and Hip-Hop Crew Ballet Eclectica, COCA’s ballet company for students 10-18; COCAdance, a modern dance company for students 11-18; and Hip-Hop Crew, for students 10-18, are holding auditions.* Ballet Eclectica’s repertoire incorporates elements of classical and contemporary ballet. The repertoire of COCAdance includes modern and a variety of jazz styles. The Hip-Hop Crew performs cutting edge hip-hop choreography. Dancers have the opportunity to work with nationally acclaimed choreographers such as Robert Battle, Kirven J. Boyd, Frank Chaves, Thaddeus Davis, Antonio Douthit, Doug Elkins, Clyde Evans, Jr., Darrell Grand Moultrie, Jason Hartley (Trey McIntyre Project), Jon Lehrer, Trinette Singleton, Lara Teeter, Michael Uthoff, among others. Sunday, August 19, Noon-2:00pm (11:30am sign-in) for ages 10-13 or 2:00-5:00pm (1:30pm sign-in) for ages 14-18. Alternately, students may audition Wednesday, August 22, 5:00-7:00pm (sign in 4:30pm) for ages 10-13 or 7:00-10:00pm (sign-in 6:30pm) for ages 14-18. (If a student wishes to audition for both companies, they must plan on attending both auditions.) A “mock audition” is scheduled for Monday, August 13 from 5:30-8:30p (5:00-5:30p sign-in) and provides an opportunity for parents and dancers to gain valuable information about the companies and audition process. August 16 Open Call: Allegro COCA is holding auditions for Allegro, a student vocal ensemble that performs musical theatre songs, pop and seasonal arrangements. Students (11-18) should prepare a complete song (accompanist provided) and bring a resume and head shot. Thursday, August 16 from 4:00- 6:00pm. If accepted, students are asked to pay a yearly participation fee and rehearse on Thursday evenings. Participants are should also enroll in a COCA voice class and an appropriate level of dance. September 5-26 Off The Couch Series: Cardio Bollywood Teens (16+) and adults can get fit and have fun in this four-week fitness series that’s a fusion of Bollywood, Bhangra and fitness moves.
