Lynita Crofford in VIOLET ONLINE

After a sold-out run at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre last year, and another at The Kalk Bay Theatre, VIOLET ONLINE comes back to the Alexander with a quick run before heading off to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. If you missed her, now is the time to catch her; if you loved her, now is your chance to see her again.

VIOLET ONLINE is based on blog posts by a well known, but anonymous mother, ex-wife and grammar fiend. Performed by Lynita Crofford and directed by Megan Furniss, the 55-minute comedy explores how divorce, being over forty and single, dating, being broke, having a thing for grammar and spelling, and an ever present tingling between the thighs can all be so utterly and delightfully delicious. Violet, who certainly isn't a shrinking one, makes it so. Recently divorced, she barges into the world of cyber dating, Scrabble sex, midlife Brazilian wax discoveries, crossing the colour barrier, struggles with clothes, and smouldering real time sex with virtual strangers. Violet lives and learns, dispenses advice and confesses all in a delightfully unselfconscious way.

Crofford's gorgeous Violet is modern, sexy, funny and confident. And, quite simply, she is looking for love. Or sex. Or love and sex. And she does it all in her own tongue in his cheek way. Megan Furniss directs.

VIOLET ONLINE runs from 15-20 June at 9pm nightly at the Alexander Upstairs Theatre. Tickets cost R90-R100, with discounts available if tickets are paid for upon booking, and can be reserved at online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased in person at the bar at any time during its regular opening hours. Alexander Bar & Café is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter. The National Arts Festival run takes place at Dicks in Grahamstown, from 2 - 8 July, with times and booking details on the NAF website.
