Harold Pinter's drama, THE LOVER, will come to the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre in a production directed by Melodie Abad and performed by Sjaka S Septembir and Caroline Midgley.

The hour-long play follows the marriage of Sarah and Richard, who together lead a perfectly balanced life in the suburbs. A respectable businessman, Richard leaves for work every day and agrees not to return before six so that Sarah can enjoy her lover after lunch. He visits a prostitute in this time. But when Richard suggests the four of them meet, the role-playing games get out of hand and lead to unexpected conflict. The lover tires of his mistress and their worlds collide.

Septembir has nineteen years of physical theatre and clowning experience. He is an actor, published poet, writer and director and holds a Master of Arts in Theatre Making from the University of Cape Town. He performed in MARAT/SADE at the Baxter earlier this year, give clowning workshops for the cast to help with Jaco Bouwer's vision. He also toured with the successful show, DIE NAGWANDELAARS to the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, for which he reworked three of C. J. Langenhoven's ghost stories for the stage.

Midgley studied drama at the University of the Witwatersrand and at AFDA. She has worked on a number of film projects, including THE POSIEDON ADVENTURE and RESIDENT EVIL 6. She has voiced many radio and television commercials and has worked as a radio news presenter and editor. Working with the same team last year, she played the role of Vladimir in Samuel Beckett's WAITING FOR GODOT.

Abad studied drama both in Cape Town at the University of Cape Town and in Paris. She has also trained in clowning. She works in the theatre and the film industries as an actor in cities, in addition to directing plays and doing voice over for commercials and television dramas. She performs and teaches Argentinian tango.

THE LOVER runs at the Alexander Upstairs from 22 -25 May at 19:00 nightly.
