Dario Fo and Franca Rame's 1983 comedy THE OPEN COUPLE opens at Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre this November following its excellently received run at Nicholas Ellenbogen's intimate Rosebank Theatre in May as a double-bill alongside DIE BUFFEL, an Afrikaans adaptation of Anton Chekhov's THE BEAR.

THE OPEN COUPLE is a comedy about sexual politics in marriage. The play is centred on an extended argument between a husband who enjoys an array of partners and his wife who wants him for herself. Despite reaching a mutual agreement about living in an open relationship, they find themselves faced with unexpected complications when their passion for each other re-emerges. When things blow up and the tables turn their marriage is left in a precarious conundrum.

Produced and directed by Christopher Weare, THE OPEN COUPLE will be performed by Larica Schnell and Nathan Lynn alongside foley artists Amelia Vernede and Ameera Conrad. The 50 minute play features lighting by Luke Ellenbogen and costumes by Leigh Bishop.

THE OPEN COUPLE runs from 10 - 22 November at 7pm. Tickets are R100 (R90 prepaid) and can be booked online at shows.alexanderbar.co.za or at Alexander Bar itself. For telephone bookings and enquires, call 021 300 1652. Alexander Bar & Café is on the corner of Strand and Loop Streets in the Cape Town CBD. The bar is open Mondays to Saturdays from 11am until at least 1am. Strictly no under 18s are allowed in the venue due to the liquor license.
