Readings of PORNO 88 Set For Alexander Bar Upstairs Theatre, 11-12 February

Greg Karvellas and Louis Viljoen, the creators of the smash-hit comedy CHAMP, will present a reading of their latest collaboration, PORNO 88, at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre this February.

PORNO 88 brings together three friends, three actors, two producers, one narrator, one warehouse, twenty-four bats, five-and-a-half marital aides, sixty tubes of lube, one bucket of cheaper lube (bought earlier...), nine other things to make up the list, and then more items to round things out to 88, the coolest number in the world, according to scientists and science.

Join Karvellas and Viljoen and their brave troupe of hungry-for-acclaim actors as they tackle the great unproduced script of this month or any other month - but probably only this month. PORNO 88 is so salacious, so risque, and so likely to offend the squares and titillate the free and horny that no theatre - as yet - has been willing to produce it. With the team at Alexander Bar proving to be enthusiastic hosts, the play has found a home for a reading - one that negates the logistics of space, a complicated set and nine speaking roles.

Viljoen is a certified winner of awards for his abyss-black comedies and thrillers. His most recent was the dark psycho drama THE PERVERT LAURA, at The Little Theatre last December. A writer, director and producer in theatre, film and television for twelve years, Viljoen has co-produced (with Karvellas) the plays ROCKS, THE ABUSERS, THE BILE BOYS, THE VERBALISTS, THE FRONTIERSMEN and THE KINGMAKERS. Viljoen's play CHAMP was produced by Artscape and won him the Fleur du Cap Theatre Award for Best New South African Script and was subsequently invited to participate in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Karvellas is a long time collaborator with Viljoen and a partner in their Dark Red production company, which absolutely does not make porn - not even once. He has directed and designed a number of shows as well as performing in several plays. Karvellas is currently the General Manager at the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town.
