Cape Town audiences have the chance to catch popular performer, and everyone's favourite Belgian, Gaëtan Schmid, in his new show THE BELGIAN. It runs at Kalk Bay Theatre from 6 to 30 November. Gaëtan has delighted audiences with his quirky energy and style in shows such as RUMPSTEAK, BODY LANGUAGE and THE DOG'S BOLLOCKS. Directed by Brent Palmer (BENCH, RACE CARD), THE BELGIAN is Gaëtan's hilarious trip into the mind of a most misunderstood species: Belgians! Behind the façade of their clean little houses with their neat little front garden patrolled by smirking garden gnomes... something obscurely wicked is lurking.... Gaëtan regales you with extravagant stories about everything and nothing, from his childhood amongst the cows in Belgium to understanding braai etiquette in present day South Africa. At the National Arts Festival this year, CUE described the show as "Hilarious ..... a highly recommended crowdpleaser", while DIE BURGER commented that Gaëtan successfully and humorously breaks down the stereotype images we have about people from Belgium. "Gaëtan entertains us with his signature panache and quirky style, sharing his comic, fascinating and limitless knowledge of what it means to be Belgian," says Simon Cooper, owner of Kalk Bay Theatre."Enjoy a night of laughter and theatre with this talented, unique performer." "To be clear," Gaëtan adds, "This is not a show about France." Gaëtan studied acting and directing at the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France, He produces, creates, writes and performs his own productions and has toured nationally and all over the world, including France, Russia, Sweden, Romania, USA, The Netherlands, England, Wales, Uganda, Andorra, Spain, Scotland and, of course, Belgium.
